For years, I searched for a book with bold, engaging illustrations that would teach children how to use their scissors and glue properly. When I couldn't find one, I wrote one! Meet Scissors, Glue, and YOU! — my new rhyming book that helps young artists start creating with confidence and ease.
When I wrote Scissors, Glue and YOU!, I focused on what I wanted my young artists to know about using scissors: how to wear them safely, cut slowly, hold the paper steady with their other hand, and avoid wasting paper. When it came to glue, I wanted to teach kids how to open and close the bottle, how much glue to use, what to do if the bottle is clogged and more.
I knew that was a lot to pack into one book, especially if I wanted to make it engaging for young learners. So I began writing silly rhymes that I knew kids would love to repeat and, best of all, remember.
Rhymes such as:
Howdy, I'm Scissors!
And hello, I'm Glue!
We love to cut and stick
And we're pleased to meet you!
Before we can create
Which is our favorite thing to do.
There's some stuff we should talk about
And some things we wish you knew.
Characters Scissors and Glue happily share the do's and the please-don't's of all things cutting and sticking. Throughout the story, two favorites, Larry the Line and Alfred the Ape, hear from Scissors and Glue by making mistakes and learning from them.
As a teacher, I love reading rhyming books to my students—they're fun to read aloud and keep everyone engaged. That’s why I write my books in rhyme. I also appreciate books with big, bold illustrations that are easy for the whole class to see, so I made sure to include those in mine too.
I just know that this book is one your young artists will love. And you will too, especially when they use scissors and glue!
This book is appropriate for children from pre-K to fourth grade.

Love that the book references the characters from other books and the images. A bit long for the subject matter age with writing a bit of a tongue twister at times- could have had better flow- but only if I was really trying to be not-picky. I would recommend!
Another great book from Cassie! The illustrations are fun. The words rhyme AND teach about proper use of these tools. It's fun to see characters in the book from Cassie's other books about Line and Shape. Highly recommend.
