Y'all. I'm thrilled to share my book, Art Teacherin' 101 with you!
Art Teacherin' 101 is a 268-page paperback book that has been 25 years in the art teacherin' making.
When I began teaching in 1998, I had no idea what I was doing, and, honestly, I still don't most days! One thing I did learn quickly is that if you don't have a handle on classroom management, you'll be fighting a losing battle that will leave you feeling exhausted and defeated. That's no way for an amazing art teacher like you to live their life! In this book, I'm sharing all things art room management, from rules and routines to cultivating teamwork and raising up independent thinkers and creators. My goal is to share with you ways to be your very best art teacherin' self for your students, whether you are on a cart, virtual or in the classroom.
But before we dive into that, we're going to do some serious self-discovery to find out exactly why it is you teach art. Why do you wake up every day, rush to school, fill paint trays, sharpen pencils and prep supplies only to do it all over again the very next day? Discovering and knowing your personal why is the biggest gift you can give to your art teachin' self and your students.
I cannot wait to share with you all that I've learned (and continue to learn!) during my 25 years making big messes with small humans. Whether you are in college working toward your art education degree or a seasoned art teacher like myself, I believe there is something in Art Teacherin' 101 for you.

I've taught Music for decades, but it's still fun and joyful, so I'm-a keep doing it. One reason I'm still in is that I'm always learning from folks who embrace the joy and tame (or revel in) the chaos of teaching creative, brilliant young people.
I started following Cassie because her wardrobe is inspiring. All the bravery! All the color! And the dance moves! I love the thrifting and the retro. Turns out it's not for me -- I'm still dressing mostly in black. But I stayed for the teacherin'. And the art (I had to pick between Art & Music as a kid). And the relentless creativity.
I love to see how Cassie's Art Room was a place of joy and fun, and how she continues to be intensely creative and SO generous with lessons, ideas, resources, and all. I've bought most of her books (gifted some to our Art teacher, kept some), and this book was packed with ideas I can use to make my room twinkle a little differently than we do already.
I also loved to find out that Art Teacherin' wasn't the original dream (same, same) and that Art School (in caps) is as snooty as Music School is about education. YES, my students and I can make fancy music, even though they're young. YES we can also be structured, joyful, creative, innovative, silly, and make music of ALL types with wonder and awe. So, ha.
I'll add to the statement, not only CAN you be an Artist (Musician) and Art (Music) Teacher, you must. Or I must. Not trying to be bossy.
Dear Cassie, I love your book. I love how vulnerable and authentic you are in it. I read a couple of chapter every day and I can’t wait to get to it next time when I have a minute.
